The crazed pace of work and college doesn’t leave much time to have something resembling a life, never mind writing fiction. And, generally speaking, most of the free world agrees that Mondays are pretty much an invention of the Antichrist. (Personally, I’m lobbying to have it moved to Wednesday, because there is nothing that rivals the soul-sucking WTF-fest that has been the average Wednesday for me for the last seven years, with a few notable exceptions.)

Leaving that aside, THIS Monday is one of the better ones I’ve had in…well…I think the last truly great one I had was back in December. (Segues into Family Guy-style Peter Griffin reminisce…) Oh. Right. I’m back.

One of the most exciting things about being a writer is getting THE LETTER. Y’all know the one I mean: the one that says “We read your work, we really like it, and we want to pay you for it.” This afternoon, I got just such a letter from Changeling Press…along with the contract!

I checked Changeling out very carefully before and during the submissions process. I talked to authors I knew who have work there, I checked their reviews on http://hipiers.com and AbsoluteWrite.com, and I asked about the contract before I ever saw it. Everything I saw and heard checked out, and when I got the contract, I read that bad boy like I was checking it for flyspecks. The contract really impressed me, because it may be one of the most author-friendly contracts I’ve ever been offered.  I signed it as fast as a digital PDF reader would allow.

SO…what’s the story?

The story’s called “Even Groomsmen Get The Blues.” There’s a lot of backstory behind this one, but…let’s save something for the big reveal, hmm? *winks* It’s going to come as a pretty big surprise to some of my readers, because it’s NOT a paranormal story, but I think y’all are going to enjoy it!

Back soon with more, y’all. For the time being, I’ve got Spanish homework and loops to join!

Hasta la próxima vez,

Mejor,

J.S. Wayne
